Did you miss seeing this face?

Our first attempt at pig tails...pretty stinkin cute if you ask me

Lucy "helping" me dust. I gave her a rag and put her to work! She got bored and decided sitting under/on furniture would be more fun. Don't blame her.

It has been so hot and humid here lately that we often find its just easier to stay wet, because sooner or later you end up soaking wet in sweat anyway. I always forget how hot and sticky our summers are. And the hottest months are yet to come! We love it anyway...summer will always be my favorite season. Heat, humidity, sweat, bugs and all. The fresh summer veggies from the garden and the abundance of cheap berries and fruit makes it all worth it. Not to mention everyone looks better with a little tan :) Although it seems we haven't "done" much, we sure have been staying busy this summer. We haven't left town or anything, but its funny how you make all these plans to spend the lazy days of summer and before you know it you're schedule is slammed and you barely have time to clean the house! Lucy has been taking swimming lessons every morning, which I promise to upload videos of soon. We thought we should take her to our neighborhood pool to test out her skills...

Counting before jumping into daddy. She says "two, two, free!"

Aaaaannndddd JUMP!

Swimming to daddy. She is so relaxed in the water she barely moves. It doesn't make for a very productive kick, but she loves it nonetheless. My main goal was for her to be comfortable in the water this year, which as you can see, she definitely is.

Resting on the steps

And another way to relax and cool off in the summer heat in your own backyard? Found this guy on Amazon for 14.99.....the frog sprinkler. Lucy calls him "bit wa wa". Translation.....she calls frogs "bit" because they say ribbit, and "wa wa" is obviously water.

Much better than just playing with the hose!

Mmmm....hose water tastes good....

Even Heidi got a little use out of the frog

All summer fun aside, it really has been a taxing couple of months. Mainly for me. I find my heart not quite where it should be, and not really sure how to change either. We continue to be immensely encouraged by our small group...they are more of a blessing than they know. But a change of heart can only happen through our Father's molding and during His timing. I often think my heart would "fix" itself if I would just get what I desire...another baby, Mark getting a job, me being able to stay home full time (although I am very blessed to be home a lot with Lucy). But these things would only be a temporary "fix". My heart wouldn't change, though my circumstances would. It's times like these when the Lord stretches our faith, giving us the character we need, so when the time comes for us to receive His blessing again, we can receive with changed and pure hearts.

I find jealousy gripping a hold of me lately, as almost everyone around me is pregnant. It always seems like that, whenever you want something, everyone else happens to have it. Whether it's a pregnancy or a house or an engagement ring or even just a new outfit. You want freedom from jealousy? I've got a trick that does a nice job on jealousy....pray for the person you are jealous of. Thank the Lord for His blessing on that person. Man it does wonders on my heart. That's my amazing tip of the week :) Pray for those you are jealous of. Before you know it, you'll be loving them and praying more blessing on their life. That is my challenge to myself this week.

More to come....

I love the pics but I also love how open you are about where your heart is right now. I continue to pray blessings for your family.

Niki says that Lucy is amazing in the water.

She's adorable...and yes, hose water does have a unique taste of summer. I can taste it now. :)

I'm praying for you and your heart. I know what it's like to be impatient and jealous, but your solution is so brilliant (it should be--it's so Christ-like!). Hang in there!

hi janna,
my name is linda kim and i was on the baby wise blog and under the dreamfeed blog i saw your post. i was wondering if you could please help me as i relate to that post. my son who will be 9 weeks on monday was on a 3 hour schedule/routine but just this week he has been waking up from his naps as a 2.5 hr schedule. he would wake up early from his nap (since he was on a 3 hour) and i couldnt figure out why and then i read your post and looking back to my "notes" he was waking on the dot as if he were on a 2.5 schedule. he also has a 7:30 wake time. naps are going pretty well but from the evening on it's been challenging. i guess my question is do you remember what your schedule was during a 2.5 routine. also did you do a 3 hour in between feedings to get to a 730 bedtime? being on a 2.5 hour routine the last feeding would be 630 and that is too early for us. nights have been challenging in determing what bedtime is. at night he has only been doing a 4.5 hr max and then he will wake up around 2 or 3 for a feed. another challenge is that after the mon feeding he goes to sleep but wakes up around 5-6am and can't really go back to sleep. but i do get him at 7:30 regardless. anyways, i know this is random but any advice would help. thank you so much...

in His grace,
linda

Linda,
I don't remember her wake time for a 2.5 hour schedule, but if that is when he is waking that is when you should feed him. It could be a growth spurt so do the 2.5 hour schedule for now and soon he will probably go back to 3 hours. As far as the evening goes....I always cluster fed in the evenings, as my milk supply was lower and Lucy was always starving in the evenings, so after her last nap she fed about every 2 hours until bedtime. So if she had a 8pm bedtime and she woke up from her last nap at 4, I would feed her at 4, again at 6, and then again at 8 and then put her straight to bed. You can adjust bedtime to fit his feeding schedule. I wouldn't stress about bedtime at this age. I know you're supposed to be in a 30 minute window but they're feeding pattern changes so much at this age that you just kinda have to go with the flow. Also I think the dreamfeed is crucial to sleeping through the night. I always woke her up around 10:30 or 11 for a dreamfeed. Good luck! My email is jannaelain@gmail.com if you have more questions
